Joe Bonamassa Brings Live Music Back to the Greek
Photos and words by Steve Rose
Joe Bonamassa returned to the Greek Theatre on Sunday night as they opened the doors for the first time in over a year and a half for their first concert of the 2021 season. Fans, many of whom were adorned in a variety of Bonamassa tour shirts throughout the years, were eager to get in the venue and lines formed at every entrance well before the doors were opened.
Prior to taking the stage, the theme song from Welcome Back, Kotter played to greet the sold out crowd back to the Greek, a venue celebrating its 90th year, and to welcome music back to this iconic venue. It was nostalgic, it was perfect, and it was just what we all needed. The 15 song set was a fantastic collection of material spanning this blues titan's career with a third of it coming from his latest release, Royal Tea. Fan Favorites like The Ballad of John Henry, Woke Up Dreaming, and Crossroads rounded out the set and sent the fans into the night with smiles on their faces as live music once again filled the Los Angeles air.
Joe's band for this tour consists of Michael Rhodes on bass, Greg Morrow on drums, Reese Wynans on keys, and Jade MacRae on backing vocals. They have a number of dates remaining on this Summer tour, so if they're near your town, don't miss out on this show.
