Bush brought their "On Wheels" tour to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Friday November 20th. Due to the pandemic, this special two stop tour also hitting Ventura the next night, was the first chance in over 9 months that fans have had a chance to see the band perform live and in person. The concert was a drive in style show with hundreds of socially distanced cars and fans surrounding a 360 degree stage covered in LED screens and lights. The band's performance was streamed to each car over FM radio and a live video feed was provided via Zoom links sent out to each ticket holder. Cars with license plates from many states lined the front of the parking lot with some fans driving cross country to show support for their favorite group.
This live show was part of a larger series of events featuring artists of many musical genres in addition to movie screenings. Entitled “Concerts in Your Car” these live performances aim to bring back musical entertainment in a socially responsible way, providing a chance for people to experience in-person concerts by world famous artists from the comfort and safety of their cars. There are several more events planned at the Del Mar Fairgrounds through the holidays.
Bush played several new songs from their 2020 album "The Kingdom" released this summer including the title track as well as "Blood River," "Bullet Holes" "Flowers on A Grave," and "Quicksand." In addition the band played a ton of their well known classic hits including "The Chemicals Between Us," "Everything Zen," "Machinehead," and "Comedown." The band, especially frontman and original member Gavin Rossdale seemed to relish the opportunity to show off their new material and have the opportunity to play live for their fans once again
Any chance to see a live concert these days is a special experience and this show was clearly one to remember!
