On February 25th, Eric Johnson brought his Treasure Tour 2023 to The House of Blues San Diego. The amazingly talented virtuoso guitar player played two sets of different music throughout the evening. Starting with an acoustic set and just guitar and upright bass on stage, Johnson played some delicate instrumental tunes influenced by eclectic jazz, blues, rock, and even country music styles. The guitarist’s fingerpicking technique and delicate touch on the acoustic guitar sounded fantastic. As the band added more instrumentation the sounds definitely got louder and more exciting. On "Song for Lynette" Johnsonn treated the crowd to some beautiful piano before bringing a full acoustic band on for a set highlight "Song for George." In the second set of the evening Johnson and band turned up the volume considerably and played electric. Highlights of this set included Jimi Hendrix covers like "Drifting" and "Bold As Love" and the classic Eric Johnson original "Cliffs of Dover." The entire band of musicians at this show were phenomenal and it was a pleasure to see this well known guitar player show off his diverse array of musical talents, a treasure trove indeed.
